Why These Settings Matter
Timekeeping suffers first when an automatic runs low on reserve, which is why the daily turn count matters. 650 TPD keeps this movement topped up; substantially fewer turns lets the reserve ebb away until the GMT-Master II "Bruce Wayne" stops altogether.
Excess turns, by contrast, do no harm at all. The slipping mainspring in a modern automatic releases surplus tension automatically at full wind, so the movement can never be overwound by a winder. Choosing too high a TPD costs nothing but a little extra wear on the winder itself.
